Dude gave me a UK instead of a US single language version- figured that out as soon as default language, time & currency format, and keyboard were all greyed out and stuck on “United Kingdom” along with then searching “FQC-10528.”Įxtremely irritating as I opened it without checking (dude posted a legit picture of a US OEM even though sent out UK OEM) and I knew that if I went ahead and installed it things would work, but with hiccups down the road such as Windows updates toggling back on Window’s account sync settings for language preferences ect and of course just for the simple fact that I am OCD and I really couldn’t live with myself if I did not address the locked UK regional settings and rolled dirty and amateur… Being a dumb azz like an overly excited kid at Christmas, I jumped into things without checking the packaging (first time finally playing with Win 11 for myself.) I decided to delete Win 11 Pro from the boot manager and just delete the partition (running all OS’s on the primary SSD) and run it fresh from the installation DVD out of curiosity. Now it appeared that I was good to go, so I bought an OEI (similar to OEM) system builder’s disk with a legit Win 11 Pro product key. Just to keep things simple, I slipstreamed an old tried and true generic key so as to be able to check if the registry was by any chance holding my Win 10 Home OEM key hostage as a backup key- it was not (not that it should with a Pro installation.) I wiped, and then installed with a modified ei.cfg file on the sources folder of my Windows 10 installation media. The installation also automatically pulled my Windows 10 Home key digitally from UEFI (without my authorization) to convert over to a windows 11 Home key- no big issue there as I left my Ethernet cable unplugged so no activation. Right off the bat, the Creation Tool created media would not allow me to access all versions for installation- even though I chose “for another computer.” It still tried to force a Windows Home OEM installation- no surprise there. I could have cheated and went straight to Rufus, but I was kind of wondering what issues I would run into with the Windows Media Creation Tool. I recently wanted to add Windows 11 to the boot menu, so I removed Linux and started playing with Windows 11 installation media. ![]() I never did get around to upgrading to Pro and really this being more of an “on the go laptop” did not really need it. The Asus has a digital product key for Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Home is currently installed. ![]() I should probably add that I am running a 1TB NVME and a 1TB SSD. I have an Asus Vivobook Pro 17 (N705UD-EH76) with “wonderful” non-sand boxed come and get me UEFI. I need all of the Anthony Young caliber people on here to please step up… ![]() Windows stole my sh!t and I do not think there is anything I can do about it. Guys I need help… I am so mad that I feel like smashing my keyboard right now but I can’t do that because I need to write this post and I have been sentimentally using this model M since the 80s.
